How to Remove the Visible Watermark from Google Gemini AI Images

What It Is

Google added a setting that lets users turn off the visible watermark on AI-generated images, video, and audio. The visible mark disappears, but the files still carry invisible SynthID watermarking and C2PA metadata, so the content stays technically identifiable as AI-generated.

Key Features

  • A toggle under Settings, then Media Watermark, to turn the visible mark on or off.
  • Works with the Nano Banana, Omni, and Lyria models across Gemini and Google Flow, with support for Search coming soon.
  • Invisible SynthID watermarking and C2PA metadata stay embedded in every file regardless of the toggle.
  • Credentio, an open-source C++ library Google released the same day, lets developers validate C2PA Content Credentials locally inside their own apps without sending files to a server.

Best Use Cases

  • Professional and creative work that needs clean imagery without a visible AI badge in the corner.
  • Workflows that want provenance tracking through invisible metadata rather than a visual overlay.

Pricing Model

Free. The toggle is a setting inside the Gemini app and Flow, not a separate paid feature.

My Take

Good for creators and designers who need visually clean output for client or portfolio work and don't want a sparkle icon in the corner. Two things to know before relying on it: the toggle won't show up at all in places that legally require visible AI labeling, including the EU and South Korea, so this isn't a workaround for those markets. And while Google frames the invisible layer as proof the content is still traceable, the SynthID detection behind that claim is Google's own proprietary system for images, video, and audio, not something outsiders can independently audit. Credentio opens up checking on the C2PA metadata side, but SynthID verification itself still runs on Google's word.
